There is nothing worse than trying to study than when you have simply run out of brain power and everything seems to be a jumble of disassociated thoughts. This is something every student goes through at least once in their college careers and when you are studying online for a masters degree like those from this online university and working full time, it gets even worse. However, there is good news in that there are foods proven to increase mental stamina and can actually boost brain power to get you through those moments of fog. Try adding these five foods to your diet on a regular basis and watch how your cognitive powers improve!

1. Salmon

High in the healthy Omega complex of vitamins, salmon is often called the leading ‘brain food’ of all. For years and years we have known that fish, especially salmon, increases mental processes but it has only been in recent decades that we have come to know about the Omega complex of vitamins and just how important they are to brain power!

2. Olive Oil

While olive oil is a ‘must’ in all Italian and Greek cooking, did you know it is actually one of the healthiest ‘foods’ you can eat? Olive oil is high in polyphenols which are antioxidants that keep the brain cleansed of those nasty free radicals that hinder thought processes. A real plus if you love Greek salads or Italian antipastos.

3. Coconut Oil

Now then, you’ve probably heard that saturated fat is bad for you and unhealthy for your heart. This isn’t always the case as coconut oil is rich in saturated fats, but the good kinds. It is also a great inhibitor in the production of free radicals that clog arteries and diminish blood flow so if you want to get the grey matter moving freely through your brain, cook with coconut oil and you’ll be on the right road to better mental stamina.

4. Berries – Especially Blueberries

When it comes to antioxidants, there is nothing better than dark colored berries, blueberries being thought the very best of all. Blueberries are extremely high in antioxidants but along with berries, any dark green or bright orange fruits and veggies are also sources of powerful and naturally cleansing nutrients. Keep your brain from getting sluggish by adding foods with high antioxidant properties and you’ll be amazed at how great you look and feel – a real plus when it comes to studying!

5. Kimchi

This is not exactly a food so much as it is a Korean dish that is fermented. What you get from kimchi is a healthy dose of probiotics that help to cleanse the body of toxins that aren’t being naturally released during the process of digestion. Remember, vitamins and minerals are absorbed during digestion so it is necessary to keep foods passing through the system efficiently so that nutrients can be absorbed in sufficient quantities. This is how your brain gets food!

Finally, and as an added bonus you’ve earned for studying so hard, why not end your day with a glass of red wine. Did you know that one little glass of red wine each day is actually great for your blood because of a substance called resveratrol? If you are looking to keep those organs healthy – especially that brain you are trying to use when studying for that master of arts in liberal studies – a little glass of red wine goes a very, very long way. Add these five healthy foods to your diet and see how quickly your thought processes return to normal. It’s really amazing just how effective a slight alteration to your diet can be.
